Hoon drivers seen 'jumping cars over railway lines'

Residents in Adelaide’s west say hoon drivers are playing Russian roulette with people’s lives, jumping their cars over a railway line.

Those who live near the crossing in Grange are angry authorities haven’t been able to stop them and fear it is only a matter of time before someone is killed.

“People just put their foot down at the railway line and they jump and you can hear them and they bottom out,” a resident named Jenny told 7News.

And on Australia Day the dangerous practice almost turned deadly.

“We just heard this big ‘vroom’,”one woman recalled.

“The car came up over the railway line, about 20 metres airborne, come across, clipped the tree, took out the (inaudible) pole, and then into the tree behind us,” resident Shaun Langdon told 7News.

Incredibly two teenagers inside the car crawled out of the wreckage uninjured.

The local council recently reduced the speed limit on Charles Sturt Avenue from 50 to 40, but the residents say hoons just ignore it.

“Put a stop there, put some lights there maybe, like a proper crossing,” one resident suggested.

“Put a bump, a speed bump, maybe further on down the road,” another said.

Police say they are investigating.
