Hollyoaks exit confirmed for Jamelia

A Hollyoaks exit appears to have been confirmed for Jamelia, amid her appearance on a new show.

The actress and singer, who is known for playing Sharon Bailey in the soap, is one of the cast members of the new ITVBe reality series Drama Queens.

The show was first announced in January and will follow a line-up of popular soap actresses, giving fans an "authentic and aspirational glimpse" into their lives.

A press release for the show from production company Lime Pictures has given details about the plot lines for each cast member and appears to confirm a future soap exit for Jamelia.

It reads: "Jamelia embarks on a transformative journey, prioritising her own well-being and family over the glitz of Hollyoaks. As she prepares to bid farewell to the show, we witness her emotional transition."

Jamelia first appeared as Pearl Anderson’s daughter Sharon in the Channel 4 soap in one episode in 2021, before joining the regular cast in 2023.

In this new update, Drama Queens also announced that Hollyoaks star and former EastEnders actor Rita Simons will appear in the show, which begins next month.

Joining Jamelia and Rita are Hollyoaks' Jorgie Porter (Theresa McQueen) and Coronation Street’s Ellie Leach (Faye Windass), Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) and Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt). The show will also feature Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh (Tracy Robinson), Laura Norton (Kerry Wyatt) and Roxy Shahidi (Leyla Harding).

The new reality show promises "exclusive access to the cast’s professional commitments, as they juggle late-night finishes, photo-shoots, and last-minute line learning, with their family lives".

The unscripted series also promises to take us behind the scenes of the soap stars' lives and give a peak into how many of the actors are actually friends in real life.

Digital Spy has reached out to Hollyoaks' production company Lime Pictures for comment on Jamelia's future.

Drama Queens will premiere on Wednesday, April 10 at 9pm on ITVBe and ITVX.
