Hobart mayor stands by anti-Mofo comments

Hobart's mayor has doubled down on his criticism of winter festival Dark Mofo and says there should be a debate over the future of tourism in the city.

Tasmania's peak business body and a fellow councillor have called for Ron Christie's head after he labelled the event too controversial and threatened to withdraw council funding.

"I have not backed down or stepped away from the personal comments I made about the Dark Mofo festival or the future of our city," Mr Christie told reporters in a brief press conference on Tuesday, adding he has no plans to resign.
