Hijab-clad teen with fake rifle sparks security scare at hospital
A teenage girl wearing a hijab and brandishing what appeared to be an assault rifle has sparked a security scare at a Sydney hospital.
The weapon looked like the type of rifle used in several US school shootings – but it turned out the gun was a plastic toy replica.
Staff and visitors at the Prince of Wales Hospital were shaken and called security.
“Although it was fake, you know, that is pretty stupid,” one witness said.
“Why would you walk around with a fake gun in your hand?”

“People don’t knows it’s a toy gun, so that’s terrorising innocent people,” another said.
The teen had left by the time police arrived but they found her at home and established the gun was a toy and perfectly legal.
She and her family were given a stern warning but no further action has been taken.
Prince of Wales Hospital told 7 News an investigation is underway to ensure all security protocols have been followed.
