Here's what's open and closed in Ottawa for Thanksgiving

Monday, Oct. 14 is Thanksgiving in Canada. The holiday falls on the second Monday of the month, so it's arriving especially late this year.

Here's what's open and closed in and around Ottawa.

Shopping and attractions

Grocery stores

Most grocery stores in the city will be closed Monday, but some including Whole Foods at Lansdowne Park, Farm Boy at Rideau Centre, Loblaws on Isabella Street and Metro on Rideau Street will remain open.

Alcohol

Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed.

Alcohol may be available at rural LCBO convenience outlets and at participating grocery stores that are open Monday.

Pharmacies

Some Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations will be open. Check individual stores for holiday hours.

Malls

Bayshore, Place d'Orléans and St. Laurent malls will be closed. Rideau Centre and Tanger Outlets will be open, but individual store hours may vary.

Museums and galleries

The National Gallery of Canada and agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science and war museums will be open.

The Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed.

Services

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

  • There will be no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection, nor will there be multi-residential recycling or green bin collection.

  • Pickup will resume on Tuesday with collection delayed by one day for the rest of the week.

  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected as normal.

Libraries

All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.

Municipal child care

All municipal child-care centres will be closed.

Recreation

Many recreation facilities are closed, some through the weekend. Some of these spaces will be open on modified schedules.

Ottawa Public Health

  • The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

  • The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.

  • Dental clinics will be closed.

Banks

Monday is a bank holiday and many branches are closed. There may be access to some ATMs.

Other services

  • City Hall and client service centres at Ben Franklin Place and 255 Centrum Blvd. will be closed.

  • The provincial court at 100 Constellation Dr. will also be closed.

  • The city's 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters.

The provincial government is strongly encouraging Ontarians to mask up, yet again. Ottawa universities plan to keep their institutions with recommendations of mask wearing, but do not plan to enforce it unless a mandate it put in place by Doug Ford.

Getting around

Parking

All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions apply.

Transit

  • Route 301 between Richmond and Carlingwood will not run.

  • OC Transpo's Rideau Centre customer service centre will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • The OC Transpo lost and found at Heartwood House will be closed.

  • The taxi coupon line will remain open, as will the 57272 Para Transpo text service.
