Heater blamed for Boulder fire

Firefighters are trying to save a house in Kalgoorlie-Boulder this morning after a heater sparked an accidental fire.

The blaze started about 4.30am at a property on Hopkins Street in South Boulder.

The residents escaped safely but by 6.30am, about half of the house was engulfed in flames.

Last night in Maylands, a deliberately lit fire caused about $15,000 worth of damage to a property in Maylands.

Firefighters were called to the Conroy Street unit about 10pm.

The blaze was contained to the kitchen and police are investigating.

Earlier last night, a pair of mislaid towels started a fire in a West Perth hotel.

Fire crews rushed to the Richardson Hotel on Richardson Street just after 8pm.

It is believed the towels had oils on them which self-combusted in the hotel sauna.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the fire caused about $10,000 worth of damage.
