'Heartwarming' encounter between golden retriever and seal caught on camera
A playful golden retriever has had a hilarious encounter with a wild seal after sneaking up on the unsuspecting mammal at an Adelaide beach.
The curious pooch was filmed taking a dip at Glenelg Jetty about 9.30 this morning, when it approached the seal frolicking close to the shoreline.
Footage shows the playful dog swimming towards the seal as a man can be heard laughing.
“I don’t think they are going to be friends!” he adds as the retriever approaches.
As soon as the dog comes within reach of the seal, the large sea creature quickly darts away, leaving the pup alone in the water.
Chloe Thompson, who recorded the encounter on her mobile phone, described the moment as as “heartwarming”.
“I just thought it was pure, sweet and heartwarming,” she told Yahoo7.
“I was a little worried the seal may have attacked but was pleased to watch it frolic away.”
A handful of people on the jetty witnessed the dog’s failed attempt to make friends before the owners of another dog ran in after the retriever, Ms Thompson said.
