'Total disrespect': Heartless thieves' sickening act at cemetery


Queensland residents have been left mortified after more than 50 brass plates were stolen from a cemetery north of Brisbane over the weekend.

Fifty-two brass plates were taken and six headstones were damaged at the Caboolture and Districts Lawn Cemetery between 4pm on Friday and 8am on Monday, police said.

It’s estimated the total value of plates stolen from the headstones was up to $26,000.

Police have appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area or who may have dashcam vision to contact them.

News of the theft on Facebook had many residents disgusted.

“What a despicable act and heartless thieves,” one woman wrote claiming her grandmother had been buried in the same cemetery.

Another added: “Some people just have no respect for anything anymore”.

“Total disrespect – how do they sleep at night?” another woman wrote.
