Heartbreaking video of whale trying to break free from net
Heartbreaking footage shows a whale struggling to break free from shark nets off the Gold Coast after becoming tangled on Monday morning.
The Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol’s Marine Animal Release Team and Sea World worked to rescue the mammal which became stuck at Burleigh Heads.
They managed to free the whale just after 11.30am.
Queensland Shark Control Program Manager Jeff Krause said it is believed the mammal broke the net at Burleigh Heads and continued on for several hundred metres before stopping.
“The Marine Animal Release Team was activated after the whale entanglement was reported at approximately 7.40am today,” said Mr Krause.
