‘Heart dropped:’ Man hit in daylight shooting

A man in his 20s has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a daylight shooting in Sydney’s west.

Multiple crime scenes have been established after emergency services were called to a home in Carlisle Ave, Bidwill at about 2pm.

Police believe the man was shot in the back at a nearby location, before he walked to the home.

NSW Ambulance treated the man for back wounds before he was taken to Westmead Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Witnesses heard “multiple gunshots” prior to the incident. Another person reported seeing three people running away from the scene.

“I heard three (gunshots) and they were pretty close. My heart dropped,” witness Chantel Willis-Hayek told 10 News.

“There’s a whole heap of kids in this area.”

Footage from 9 News showed blood splatters and an intact bullet on the footpath near an underpass in Bidwill Square.

Officers from the Mount Druitt Police Area Command will continue to forensically examine the crime scenes.
