Have we been lighting sparklers wrong all this time? Viral tip blows minds

Imagine finding out you've been doing something back to front you're whole life.

This is exactly what happened when Melbourne cake artist Tigga Maccormack shared her new discovery about sparklers on TikTok.

She originally posted a video where she lit the sparklers on one of her beautiful cakes and almost burnt her wrist as she tried to light the last few,

One bright spark suggested she light them a different way to avoid getting burned.

"You meant to light them from the bottom so the sparkles go up," Mae Bee wrote in the comments.

That lead to a whole new video featuring Tigga lighting sparklers from the bottom that's now been watched by more than 5.6 million people.

"Never in my 34 years of life have I seen anyone do this," one follower wrote.

"I’ve never met a single person that lights it from the bottom," another added.

"How have I not known this!!!!" someone else said.

Not everyone was convinced though.

"This seems logical but I still don't agree. it just doesn't feel right if you're not fighting for your clothes and hands while enjoying the sparks fly," one TikTok user wrote jokingly.

"Why is this mind blowing? If you light it in the middle it sparks both ways," another person commented.

"Wait... what if you burn right in the middle will it split and go up AND down," someone replied with another adding: "Now this comment is mind blowing".

One person did point out that the packaging suggests otherwise.

"Why does it show them lit at the top on the box then?"

To which Tigga answered: "Haha they are obviously not 'meant' to be lit from the bottom but I didn't even know if was an option," adding: "Looks nicer! Especially in a cake."

One woman warned others to check the design of their sparklers before they used this technique.

"This only works for the metal sticks. Somehow this year I ended up with a box of wood stick ones & tried this & the entire top portion just fell off!" she said.

It's nice to know we have options though.
