The man who filmed the footage, Jacob Martinez, told CBS News that friends and family had wanted to send the couple off on their honeymoon “with something that they will remember”.

“It chokes me up because I saw them get into the helicopter, which seemed to be fine,” he said.

“I can’t put into words how you go from a happy ending to a tragedy.”

The helicopter crashed into rugged terrain near San Antonio just moments after take-off.

The helicopter’s pilot, Gerald Lawrence, 76, also was killed.

The newlyweds were both in their final year at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

The flight was meant to carry the newlyweds to San Antonio International Airport, where they were to board a plane for their honeymoon.

The cause of the helicopter crash remains unclear.

Investigators are assessing various factors, including weather, the pilot’s history and the possibility of mechanical failure.
