Harry’s sweet speech leaves guests cheering

Newly married Prince Harry is said to have had the 200 people at his lunchtime wedding reception cheering when he got up to give an “off the cuff” speech.

The Duke of Sussex, as he will now be known, got up to deliver the thank yous of the evening, and according to a guest, and he was met with cheers from the crowd when he referred to Meghan as his “wife” for the first time.

“It was very off-the-cuff, which was lovely,” the unnamed guest told People.

“He promised that all the Americans wouldn’t steal the swords and said, ‘Please, when you leave, be quiet as you don’t want to wake the neighbours,’ which was quite fun.”

The father of the groom, Prince Charles, also spoke, and this time it was Harry’s turn to get emotional.

In a very heartfelt speech, the heir to the throne mentioned his speech “how proud” he was of his youngest son and the man he had “grown into”.

“He ended it calling him, ‘My darling old Harry, I’m so happy for you,’ which was very sweet,” the guest said.

Charles is also said to have gushed about how “pleased” he was to have been asked to walk his now daughter-in-law down the aisle.

The lunchtime reception was hosted by the Queen at Windsor Castle and saw Sir Elton John, a good friend of Princess Diana’s, perform a couple of songs for the happy couple.

Guests were served a selection of canapés, including Scottish langoustines, English asparagus and garden pea panna cotta, just to name a few selections. There was also chicken, risotto and pork belly, followed by macaroons and crème brûlée tarts for dessert.

As if that wasn’t enough there was also the wedding cake on offer, crafted by Claire Ptak it featured. elderflower syrup made at The Queen’s residence.

After a break and a dress change, the newlyweds then headed to Frogmore House for their evening reception hosted by Harry’s father the Prince of Wales.
