Harrowing details after mum killed in crash in front of her two children

The Perth crash has left a community shocked days out from Christmas.

Distressing details have emerged of the aftermath of a fatal Perth crash which saw a young mother killed in front of her two children days before Christmas.

The mother, identified as 32-year-old Rebecca Pumphrey by The West Australian, was reportedly taking her two young children to their father's home when she crashed her Ford Fiesta hatchback into a power pole at 11pm on Thursday, before spinning into a nearby property.

A witness told the publication her eight-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter had to be dragged away by locals, screaming in tears for their mother.

One neighbour said they heard "two massive thuds and a crash" before rushing outside to see a young girl screaming for help. Emotional resident Maddison Clarke said she made an unsuccessful check of the mother's pulse at the scene.

"I couldn’t tell the children, so I obviously had to run back, sit with them to try to calm them down because they were just both screaming and crying," she said.

“Saying that they wished it wasn’t them... it was just absolutely horrible."

The crash remains under investigation, which will include a probe to determine whether Ms Pumphrey was experiencing fatigue.

Tributes paid to 'happy' mum

Distraught friends and family visited the crash site on Friday, leaving flowers and tributes to the young mother.

One person told The West Ms Pumphrey was “always smiling and happy, and would do anything for her kids”.

Another said she was a "unique, funny and strong woman".

This year has been Western Australia's deadliest on the roads since 2016.
