Harris wins Washington, D.C.

Vice President Harris will win Washington, D.C., continuing the district’s streak of voting for Democrats for president, Decision Desk HQ projects.

The district has voted for every Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, the first election in which it participated in the Electoral College. Harris’s win will add three votes to her total.

D.C. did not originally vote in presidential elections but was granted the right through ratification of the 23rd Amendment to the Constitution, which gave the district its three votes.

Election analysts had rated the district as solidly Democratic ahead of Election Day.
