Harris to address Al Smith charity dinner by video
Vice President Harris will address an annual charity dinner in New York via a recorded video message, organizers said Thursday ahead of the event.
Harris’s campaign previously announced she would not attend the Al Smith dinner in New York City, which raises millions of dollars for Catholic charities. She instead will hold campaign events in the battleground state of Wisconsin.
Former President Trump will attend the event in person and deliver remarks.
The event is the 79th annual dinner of the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation and is hosted by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
Presidential candidates typically have delivered remarks in the past and traded good-natured jokes, though Trump upended the event in 2016 by attacking Hillary Clinton.
Thursday night’s dinner is being emceed by comedian Jim Gaffigan, who has portrayed Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz on “Saturday Night Live” in recent weeks.
