- What happened at Xi's Moscow visit? China's President Xi Jinping landed in Moscow for a state dinner with his dear friend, Vladimir Putin, on Monday. The visit marks Xi's first international trip since he secured an unprecedented third presidential term and is his first appearance in Russia since the country launched its invasion against Ukraine last year.

Xi told Russia's state run news agency that China was ready to resolutely defend the UN centric international system and stand guard over the world order based on international law. According to the BBC, Xi is expected to position himself as a potential peacemaker between Russia and Ukraine, with the leaders likely preparing to discuss China's 12 point plan to settle the acute crisis in Ukraine.

China's published plan to end the war includes proposals to respect all countries sovereignty, cease hostilities, protect nuclear plants, and resume peace talks. Though there was no mention of removing Russian troops from Ukraine. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said Xi's decision to travel to Russia just days after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin suggests that China feels no responsibility to hold the Kremlin accountable for the atrocities committed in Ukraine. So now you know.
