Is Halloween or Bonfire Night more popular? Yahoo readers have their say
It's that time of year again... which event do you prefer?
Yahoo UK's poll of the week lets you vote and indicate your strength of feeling on one of the week's hot topics. After the poll closes, we'll publish and analyse the results each Friday, giving readers the chance to see how polarising a topic has become and if their view chimes with other Yahoo UK readers.
It's that time of year when partygoers - and celebrities - hit the town posing as their favourite horror movie characters, and children dressed as ghosts and ghouls go door-to-door shaking down neighbours for treats.
Halloween has become a significant celebration in the UK, with market data from Mintel showing Britons collectively spent over £1bn on the festival last year.
But whether the largely US traditions have overtaken the uniquely British custom of Bonfire Night remains up for debate.
While Halloween certainly seems to be growing in visibility, YouGov polling suggests people are split down the middle in terms of whether they like it: with 51% of people having a positive opinion of it.
The polling showed Bonfire Night is more popular, with 59% favouring it.
But what do Yahoo UK readers think? We asked earlier this week, and here are the results.
Our poll asked: "Which do you prefer - Halloween of Bonfire Night?"
It received 466 votes and showed 71% of Yahoo UK readers favour Bonfire night.
Some 21% of voters said they prefer Halloween, with 8% saying they have no preference.

Yahoo UK readers were also asked: "How important is it to celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night?"
This poll received 268 votes with the most common vote - with 71 selections - being 0, meaning 26% of readers don't care at all for either event.
However, the average strength-of-feeling score on all the votes was 4.9, showing that overall, readers were split down the middle.
More than a quarter of readers think Halloween and Bonfire Night is of zero importance
