Groom leaves his own wedding to fight fire
A groom has left his own wedding to fight a housefire.
Jeremy Bourasa and his bride Krista, of Minnesota, were tying the knot earlier this month at the St Paul Park fire station where he works, KARE 11 reports.
The pair were hoping to hold it elsewhere, but two weeks out from the big day their plans fell apart and were forced to move it to the station.
The bride said the pair considered what would happen in the event her husband was needed to fight a blaze. They both decided they would leave it to the other firefighters.
The ceremony went smoothly, but afterwards, a call came through for a house fire.
Initially, the newly-wed couple ignored it and continued their wedding photoshoot.
However, minutes later the operator made an “all call”. The job needed more firefighters.
“I just looked over at Jeremy and I could just see it in his eyes. He felt so torn,” Mrs Bourasa said.
“And I said, ‘Go ahead and go, babe. They need you.’”
The groom leapt into action – wedding photographer December Orphen said it showed “unconditional unselfish love” between the couple, not only for each other but for their community too.
The bride isn’t any stranger to the tragedy surrounding house fires either.
Two years ago, she lost her niece and nephew in one.
But on her wedding day her husband not only made it back safely but he also managed to return in time for their first dance together.
She later added on Facebook that she married “a real life hero” and her wedding was “way better” than she could have imagined.
A GoFundMe page has also been started to help the family whose home was damaged in the blaze.
