Grim discovery in search for teen girl missing for two weeks

There’s been a grim discovery by police after a teenage girl went missing two weeks ago.

Louise Smith, 16, from Havant, Hampshire in England’s south, was reported missing on May 8 about 6.30pm local time.

Hampshire Police said CCTV showed Louise entering a Tesco supermarket about 7.30pm on May 7.

Police said Louise had been staying at Ringwood House, on Somborne Drive, an apartment complex only metres from the Tesco. She was also spotted on Somborne Drive on May 8 about midday.

On Thursday, her body was found in the Havant Thicket area of Staunton Country Park – a wooded area about 2.8km from her home.

Hampshire Police Detective Chief Superintendent Scott Mackechnie said Louise’s death “is a tragedy”.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Louise at this incredibly difficult time,” he said.

“This is now a murder investigation and our focus is to identify who is responsible. To do this it is crucial that we capture as much information as possible regarding the moments leading up to her death.”

Det Chief Supt Mackechnie said police don’t know where she went after visiting the supermarket on May 7 or what happened to her the following day.

He’s asking anyone who passed through the area on May 7 and 8 to contact police as it could hold the key to determining what happened to the 16-year-old.
