Grieving father attacks son's alleged killer in courtroom

A grieving father has lunged at the man accused of killing his three-year-old son, punching him in the face in dramatic scenes inside a courthouse.

Surveillance footage shows Antonio Hughes sitting in the back row of the courtroom before he rushes towards 22-year-old Desean Brown, his fist connecting with the side of his head.

Brown is accused of killing Mr Hughes’ son, Nylo Lattimore, and the boy’s 29-year-old mother, Nyteisha Lattimore in December 2020.

He allegedly bought a body bag off eBay and caught an Uber to the Ohio River, telling the driver he was moving out and the bag contained his clothes, Fox19 reported.

The mother’s body, reportedly covered in stab wounds, was found near a bridge in downtown Cincinnati, but Nylo’s body was never recovered despite extensive police searches spanning almost 300km of the river.

The child’s pram was found in the water, while a Paw Patrol blanket with his blood on it was recovered with Ms Lattimore’s body.

Prosecutor Joe Deters described the killing of the child as “incredibly barbaric” at a press conference in February last year.

"I still have nightmares about this,” he said at the time.

Dad ‘did what any of us would do’

After landing the punch to Brown’s face, Mr Hughes can be seen throwing several more blows to the back of the man's head, as the accused attempts to cover his head with his arms.

Within seconds, Mr Hughes is detained on the ground by security guards before both men are escorted out of the courtroom one at a time.

Friends of Mr Hughes came to his defence after the courthouse altercation.

“Everything inside him, just the pain and everything took over,” family friend Faith Burton told Fox19.

“He did what I think any of us would do.”

Ms Burton said the heartbroken dad is “on edge” and she worries about him harming himself.

“I couldn’t live without my child either, you know? So I get his emotions, I get why he acted out in court today.”

Mr Hughes was charged with contempt of court over the incident and has been ordered to serve a week behind bars.

Accused ‘sought revenge after miscarriage’

Last week it emerged that Ms Lattimore may have been pregnant and had a miscarriage.

A friend of Brown, Jameica Cobb, allegedly told police that he had become upset after the miscarriage and sought revenge.

“Mr Brown had told Jameica Cobb that he was very upset and that since she killed their baby, he was going to do something to her baby Nylo,” Cincinnati police specialist Kimberly Kelley testified, according to Fox19.
