Great white shark spotted at popular Sydney beach

Swimmers and surfers at a popular Sydney beach were told to get out of the water on Tuesday morning or risk potential danger.

A four-metre-long great white shark was sighted, calmly patrolling the shallows and chasing a seal, until lifeguards managed to chase it back out to sea.

The shark sighting occurred at Tamarama Beach at about 6am, just metres from where people were surfing.

“The seal was on its own and honestly, it was like one to two minutes later, the great white appears, so I think it followed it in,” shark drone app developer Jason Iggledon said.

One man, oblivious to the danger, was about to jump into the water when lifeguards shouted at him not to go in.

“Don’t go out! No! Don’t go out, there’s a big great white out there,” they can be heard saying.

“Get on the megaphone, just tell him on the megaphone.”

A drone captured the shark’s journey from Bronte, its last sighting on its way towards Bondi.

It comes just weeks after a 4.6-metre great white was captured in nets off Maroubra.

Jason Iggledon believes his drone shark app has and will continue to save lives.

“As soon as we mention ‘great white’, nobody stays in [the water],” he said.
