A proposal video is going viral for all the wrong reasons – not for the surprised reaction of the bride-to-be, but because of an adorable grandfather’s mobile phone recording fail.
John Hart, 71, was on a family trip when he hit record just before a stranger was about to propose to his girlfriend. But he missed the magic moment because the camera was recording in selfie mode.
The American grandpa was with his family on top of the scenic Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when the man making the proposal gave his phone to a younger family member and asked him to film the special moment.
But he had his hands full, so he passed the phone along to the Californian grandfather-of-seven.

The stranger proposed to his girlfriend of eight years, to the delight of the watching crowd.
However, the main reaction visible in the video is that of the adorable grandfather himself, who unknowingly filmed his own reaction of the wonderful proceedings.
“It was quite a mistake but I guess it put a smile on a lot of people’s faces,” Mr Hart told Good Morning America on Wednesday. “So that’s a good thing.”
While the woman’s reaction to the big question was not recorded in the video, Mr Hart recalls how happy she was.
“When he got down on his knees and opened up that ring box, the smile on her was so big and that’s what it was all about,” he said.
Fortunately, another bystander managed to capture the engagement on video.
Mr Hart hopes to track the couple down so he can combine his selfie video with the actual proposal video to show the moment captured from both angles.
