GOP Rep. Cheney on what Trump privately said about hanging Pence: 'Maybe our supporters have the right idea'
During the first public hearing of the House select committee’s investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said the public will hear testimony that includes then-President Donald Trump’s reaction to his supporters chanting “Hang Mike Pence”: that they had the “right idea.”

LIZ CHENEY: You will hear testimony that, quote, "The President did not really want to put anything out calling off the riot, or asking his supporters to leave." You will hear that President Trump was yelling and, quote, "Really angry at advisors who told him he needed to be doing something more."
And aware of the rioters chance to hang Mike Pence, the President responded with this sentiment, quote, "Maybe our supporters have the right idea." Mike Pence, quote, "Deserves it." You will hear evidence that President Trump refused for hours to do what his staff, his family, and many of his other advisors begged him to do. Immediately instruct his supporters to stand down and evacuate the Capitol.
