Google is doing free online workshops: When and how to tune in
Google has joined the ranks of the growing list of tech companies and education providers that are releasing courses for free in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and its crippling impact on businesses and workers.
For two weeks starting from Tuesday 9 June, the tech giant is hosting a number of online events called ‘Grow with Google OnAir’ aimed at helping Australians collaborate and work remotely more effectively, brush up on their job-hunting skills, connect with customers online, grow their business’ online presence, and more.
There are even resources to help teachers teach artificial intelligence and a workshop to help not-for-profit organisations connect with their communities.
Journalists, news reporters and students can also tune into a workshop to learn about digital tools presented by the Google News Initiative.
All workshops are at the ‘introductory’ level, meaning it is accessible to beginners from any background.
Many of the courses will help people become familiar with Google products such as the G-Suite, Google Analytics, Google Ads and Google My Business.
Although the workshops are free, you will need to register your interest.

Recently, Generation Australia partnered with tech education provider Academy Xi to launch a free 12-week course designed to equip selected unemployed Aussies with in-demand tech skills to pivot into a new career as a junior web developer.
The institute of Data also created a three-month program to retrain workers in the travel and tourism industry who have been hardest-hit by the business shutdown, with scholarships and significant discounts available to some applicants on a case-by-case basis.
Other platforms like Coursera and Udemy have launched free content, while learning platform Pluralsight made all their courses free for the month of April.
Tafe NSW also made several short courses free of charge.
