‘No cure for stupid’: Man taunts alligator on golf course

A man has found himself in hot water after he was photographed appearing to taunt a large alligator on a golf course.

The man was snapped at Fripp Island Resort, in the US state of South Carolina, on Sunday.

In a photo uploaded by the resort to Facebook he is seen holding the alligator’s tail while another man looks on holding his phone up.

“Harassment, enticement, or feeding of wildlife is both illegal and dangerous,” the resort wrote.

“We are sharing this incident in hopes that the violators will be found, not to encourage this behaviour.”

According to USA Today, the man in the photo has been found.

SC Department of Natural Resources spokesman David Lucas told USA Today “this guy is going to pay a hefty price”.

“But the safety issue is so much more serious than that. You could lose your life,” he said.

It’s not clear what punishment he received.

People not impressed by man's treatment of alligator

People on Facebook were angry with the man, to say the least.

“Who in their right mind would want to tangle with an alligator?" One woman wrote.

Another called him “an idiot”.

“There is no cure for stupid,” another woman wrote.

Another woman was surprised to see grown men taunting an animal.

"I'd expect that from kids or college kids on spring break ... but adults?" she said.

"This is why women live longer than men," another woman commented.

Many also commented that they were annoyed that if the alligator had attacked the man it would then be euthanised.
