Lotto winner's charitable pledge after $1 million win
A generous Gold Coast retiree has revealed she will give back to the community after winning the $1 million Gold Lotto jackpot.
The charitable Mermaid Waters resident held one of six division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4215, drawn on Saturday, December 1.
Each of the six division one winners from Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland took home $1,012,907.10.
When an official from The Lott called the lucky winner on Tuesday she thought the news was a joke.
“You are kidding, aren’t you?” she asked.
The woman couldn’t believe it: “Are you serious? You aren’t tricking me?”
When the life-changing news finally sank in, the Queensland retiree told officials the million dollars was a “lovely Christmas present”.
“How marvellous. That’s fabulous,” she said.
'I’d love to do some charity work in regional Queensland'
The overnight millionaire explained she had a long list of things she would like to do with her windfall, including charity work.
“I’d love to do some charity work in regional Queensland and take all my friends on a lovely holiday,” said the excited woman.
“It will be amazing!”
The woman’s 36-game QuickPick entry was purchased at Supercentre News in Mermaid Waters.

Supercentre News team member Kerry Shaw said she was delighted to have sold the winning ticket to a local customer.
“I was super excited when I found out we’d sold a division one winning entry,” she gushed.
"Congratulations to our winner!"
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4215 were 39, 27, 37, 35, 12 and 6, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 2.
In the 12 months to 30 June 2021, there were 341 division one winning Saturday Gold Lotto entries across Australia, which collectively won more than $435.21 million.
