A man’s 20-year streak of playing the same Lotto numbers has paid off in a major way after he scored a whopping division-one reward.
The man, from Chermside in Brisbane’s north, realised he held the latest winning entry in the Gold Lotto draw late on Monday evening and understandably had a hard time getting to sleep.
He was the only division-one winner across Australia in the Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4008, worth a very healthy $1 million.
“My wife and I saw we had won at about nine o’clock last night and we didn’t get much sleep after that,” he told officials on Tuesday morning.
“I have been playing those exact numbers for about 20 years. I can’t believe they’ve finally come up.
“It’s incredible. Honestly, I never thought this would happen, you hope, and you pray, but you never think you will actually win the lottery.”
He said the money would go towards his retirement and a holiday once coronavirus restrictions ease.
“It has been a bit of a tough year for us, just like it has been for a lot of people,” the Brisbane man added.
“We will invest the prize for our future retirement.
“I have always wanted to go to the Easter Islands. It’s been a dream of mine for some time, so hopefully when we’re allowed to travel again I can make that happen. It will be amazing.”
His winning ticket was purchased from NewsExtra Chermside inside the Westfield shopping centre.
“Congratulations to him. We hope he enjoys his prize immensely, just like all of our other winners,” store manager Shannon Hickey said.
“We have sold plenty of division-one prizes across our stores, and it’s always so exciting. All the very best to our latest winner.”
The winning numbers in the draw were 31, 16, 23, 43, 1 and 24. The supplementary numbers were 18 and 36.
