A retired Queensland man has won the entire Powerball jackpot worth $60 million, taking home the second-largest individual Division 1 prize ever in Australian lottery history.

The Burleigh Heads man said he couldn’t believe the news when he was told he scooped the only Division 1 entry, after picking up a 50 Game quick pick on a whim.

“Is this a joke?” he asked a lottery official on Thursday when he heard the good news.

A Queensland man has won $60,000 – the second largest individual Division 1 Powerball prize in Australian history.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s unbelievable! I’m a bit stunned. I don’t know what to say. I’m staggered. I can’t get my head around it,” he added, saying he didn’t expect to sleep much that night.

The Gold Coast local, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he bought the ticket from Stockland Burleigh Heads Shopping Centre on a whim.

The man is retired, but said he was still young enough to enjoy his winnings.

The instant millionaire plans to share his good fortune with his family and go on a “real good holiday”.
