Gogglebox star Isabelle Silbery shares exciting news: 'It's happening'

A few months after sharing her fertility struggles, Gogglebox star Isabelle Silbery has announced she and her husband, Alex Richards, are expecting their first child together.

Isabelle, who is mum to son Alex, seven, shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, writing, "It’s happening. Just days before our appointment with a fertility specialist, this little one decided that the time was right for us now and we couldn’t be happier!"

She continued, "I won’t lie, it’s been a rough start. I’m sick, sick of being sick, unable to do all my normal stuff & mentally exhausted. I do love my new boobs though!"

Isabelle added that her favourite part has been telling her grandma Emmie, who appeared on Gogglebox with Isabelle and her mum Kerry until she was forced to step back following her dementia diagnosis.

"My favourite part has been telling Emmie over and over again, reliving the surprised smile on her face," she said. "Even though eating fruit tingles and binging #oneborneveryminute is currently helping, I couldn’t do this without @ajrichards6 looking after us."

She shared a video of Emmie reacting to the news the baby is due at the end of the year.

Isabelle put a sign up on the wall with the message, "Alex and Izzy are having a baby," along with a sonogram, so Emmie will see it every day and know she has another great-grandchild on the way.

'Emotional rollercoaster'

In March this year, Isabelle shared her heartbreak after finding out she wasn't pregnant, sharing a photo of the pregnancy test telling her she wasn't expecting.

"Anyone my age (38) who are actively trying to conceive, knows full well the emotional roller coaster each month brings," she wrote. "I never want to portray the ‘perfect’ life on here so this is where I’m at right now.

"It’s a mix of frustration, hope, guilt, disappointment and in my case… #pmdd [premenstrual dysphoric disorder] symptoms are in full swing."

PMDD causes irritability, depression or anxiety in the week or two before your period starts, according to the Office on Women's Health.

In 2021, Isabelle also shared that she had suffered a miscarriage, taking to Instagram to update her followers, writing, "I was pregnant and then I wasn’t. Miscarriage is so hard… and after experiencing it myself recently and hearing the stories of other women and couples, I realise how common it is. I feel that it’s clearly not spoken about openly enough."

She continued, "It’s been a really rough time… the rollercoaster of getting my head around being a mother again and then suddenly having it taken away. I’m working my way through it and have had great support from my psychologist and my mates."

"We shared our happy news openly with our friends and family early on and we don’t regret this because it’s enabled us to be so well supported as we get through this. I now understand all the amazing women who have been through this and my heart goes out to all of you… wherever you are."
