Gogglebox stars lash out over Scott Morrison interview

Stars of Network Ten's reality show Gogglebox have lashed out at Prime Minister Scott Morrison while watching his interview on A Current Affair about the sexual misconduct accusations rocking Parliament House.

In a promotional clip posted to Twitter by gender and diversity advocate Leanne Tonkes, Mr Morrison is grilled by journalist Tracy Grimshaw over his response to the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins in Parliament House.

The outraged responses from the reality TV show cast have been suggested as a barometer for widespread anger the Australian public feel over the Prime Minister’s response to the treatment of women.

'Gogglebox is a pretty good litmus test'

Ms Tonkes said on Twitter the Liberal Party "need to get their heads around what a large proportion of Australians are thinking right now" about the "inadequate management" of the Brittany Higgins allegations.

“Gogglebox is a pretty good litmus test," she said.

During the interview shown to the Gogglebox cast, Mr Morrison was asked why he hadn't met with Ms Higgins in person.

He replied that she hadn't asked to meet with him – a statement that leaves the Gogglebox cast in shock.

“He hasn’t even met with her?” Isabelle Silbery asked.

The cast seem particularly angered when Grimshaw points out the timeline since Ms Higgins first came forward with the allegation.

“A month, what have you done?” 60-year-old Melbourne man Keith said.

"It happened in your building mate," Anastasia, 55, said as she points at the screen.

Scott Morrison 'has no idea'

Isabelle Silbery, 35, shines a light on how common the problem is by noting three generations of women in her family have been attacked.

“That’s the sad part, that he really has no idea,” her mother Kerry, 67, responded.

“It’s been going on forever,” agreed grandmother 91-year-old Emmie.

“It happens all the time,” Bondi student Chantel Bakac said.

Members of the cast praise Grimshaw when she quotes Ms Higgins.

"Brittany Higgins said two years ago when she was allegedly raped in this building, she was treated like a political problem. You know it’s not a political problem, it’s a human problem,” the host said.

“Exactly Trace, there you go,” Keith and Lee respond.

“I’ve never looked at it in that way,” Mr Morrison responded.

“How many more times to women have to suffer for someone to get it?” Anastasia asked.

The tweet became so popular at one point on Saturday 'Gogglebox' was trending in Australia, with over 1200 retweets and hundreds of comments responding to the clip.

Women 'won't put up with this s***'

When Mr Morrison tells Grimshaw he would love to see a woman follow his leadership when he retires from politics, the Gogglebox cast don't hold back.

“Can that be soon?” 31-year-old Leanne asked.

“I think it’s not very far away,” Anastasia added.

The clips ends with Grimshaw suggesting the Prime Minister “probably has a bit of work to do around here first” which leaves the cast is praising the bold interview style.

“I thought that was going to be a fluff piece but she did well,” Tim, 41, said.

“Tracy Grimshaw’s got a pair of ovaries,” straight talking Kerry said.

“A very strong pair of ovaries, I would say,” Emmie agreed.

Women of Australia are not going to put up with this s**t any more,” Kerry added.
