$400,000 a year: Gladys was just weeks away from massive pay day
Recently resigned NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian was just 16 weeks away from celebrating five years as Premier.
Had she remained the leader of NSW until 23 January she would have been eligible to receive some massive perks.
These include a salary of $400,000 a year, a car with a personal driver, an office and staff to go with it.
Only those who have served in the top spot for over five years can claim the entitlements, with former Premiers Bob Carr and Nick Greiner currently claiming the lot.
The controversial entitlements package was almost ditched in 2011 when Premier Barry O'Farrell tried to get rid of it.
O’Farrell didn't like the high cost to Aussie taxpayers, but he was threatened with legal action by Carr and Greiner.
Why Gladys Berejiklian resigned
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) on Friday announced it is investigating whether Berejiklian faced a conflict of interest due to her close personal relationship with former MP Daryl Maguire.
Specifically, it’s probing whether two funding grants promised to Australian Clay Target Association, a gun club, and the Riverina Conservatorium of Music between 2012 and 2018 occurred due to her relationship with the then-local MP Maguire.
The state government gave the Maguire-electorate gun club $5 million in 2017, while Berejiklian was state Treasurer.
And in 2018, it awarded an additional $20 million in funding to the conservatorium.
Some $10 million had already been approved in funding, meaning the Maguire-electorate conservatorium had received more funding than all the other conservatoria in regional Australia combined.
