Dad charged after daughter installs camera to prove his alleged abuse

A 14-year-old girl had to install cameras in her bedroom, after enduring years of alleged abuse at the hands of her father, as no one believed her.

The teenager installed the cameras and captured footage of her father’s alleged abuse leading to the arrest of 47-year-old Damon Becnel on January 2, according to ABC News.

Becnel, from Florida, is a prominent local business owner, according to ABC7. The daughter took the footage captured on the camera to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

In the videos, Becnel is seen yelling at his daughter, threatening to hurt one of the two dogs, while holding an object, which the arrest report confirms is a knife, according to ABC3.

Becnel then turns on the dogs, hitting one of the dogs across the head, before viciously lunging at the dog.

The 14-year-old girl, who up until that point was quiet, pleads with her father and jumps in to protect the dog.

In the struggle the father grabs the girls hair, as he tells her to “shut the f*** up”.

It appears the girl is trying to shield the dogs, as she pleads with her father to stop, eventually Becnel pushes his daughter against the door, aggressively and then he resumes yelling at his daughter and the dogs.

The verbal abuse continues throughout the video.

“You can’t win,” Becnel is heard saying, before he calls her a “wh**e”.

The girl’s mother, Allison Tringas told ABC3 her daughter had tried reporting the alleged abuse to authorities in the past.

“Nothing was done. Nothing has ever been done to help my daughter," said Ms Tringas who had been in a long-running custody battle with Becnel.

“She absolutely knew that something bad was going to happen and nobody would believe her unless she had that on film.”

Ms Tringas praised her daughter for being “strong and smart” and her “hero”, adding she hopes the justice system does not fail the teenager.

Becnel was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse and one count of animal abuse, and was released on a $4,000 bond and will appear in court in February.
