Girl, 9, shot dead by mum's ex-boyfriend during 'jealous rage'

A man has been arrested after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend's nine-year-old daughter in the head and killing her.

At around 10pm on June 13, officers attached to the Houston Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment.

Inside, they found two victims, a mother and a child, both had suffered gunshot wounds. They were both transported to the hospital where the child, Khylie Sorrells, 9, was pronounced dead.

Mum Brittany Sorrells said on a GoFundMe that her daughter would have been 10 years old in July.

"I don't wish this type of pain on anyone," she said.

"Especially a child."

She also said it was her ex-boyfriend who shot and killed Khylie. Houston Police Department said in a statement Jeremiah Jones, 22, has been charged in relation to the death.

In a previous statement, police said Jones and Ms Sorrells ended their relationship two months ago.

He allegedly arrived at her apartment unannounced and the two were involved in an argument before shooting both Ms Sorrells and Khylie.

After the shooting, he then fled the scene.

Court documents reveal horrific details of shooting

On the night of June 13, Ms Sorrells was at her home with her three children and her cousin.

When Jones arrived at the property, Ms Sorrells' cousin was outside and she tried to contact her to warn her.

But by the time she answered, it was too late, Jones walked into the home and found Ms Sorrells in bed with her children. He walked in and ripped the TV off the wall.

Jones was allegedly in a jealous rage and accused Ms Sorrells of dating other men, court documents said according to KHOU.

Jones demanded Ms Sorrells hand over her phone, he then shot Khylie in the head, while her two other siblings watched on. The mother of three was then shot in the shoulder.

Ms Sorrells was transported to the hospital in a stable condition and was released after being treated for her injuries.

Jones was taken into police custody following the shooting and according to KHOU Ms Sorrells had made complaints about him in the past.

On the GoFundMe, Ms Sorrells said Khylie was a star basketball player, who loved making TikTok videos and spending time with her two sisters.

"I don't even know where to start, I'm hurting, my family is wanting justice," the grieving mother said.
