Girl, 8, dies after being forced to jump continually on trampoline

Police have arrested a couple on capital murder charges, following the death of an eight-year-old girl earlier this year.

Officers responded to a call for medical assistance on August 29 in Odessa, Texas. When they arrived at the scene an eight-year-old girl was found and later pronounced dead.

On October 12 (local time) police arrested Daniel Schwarz, 44 and Ashley Schwarz, 34, in connection to the murder investigation.

The police investigation revealed the girl was being punished before her death - she was not allowed to eat breakfast and was forced to jump on a trampoline for an “extended period of time”.

The eight-year-old girl was also not allowed to drink water because she was not jumping on the trampoline, further investigations revealed, Odessa Police said in a statement.

Local news station KOSA has identified the eight-year-old girl only as Jaylin.

An Odessa Police spokesperson confirmed to a local publication, the Odessa American, that Mr and Ms Schwarz were not Jaylin’s biological parents, but could not confirm whether she was in the foster care system.

Odessa Police said in a statement on Facebook the trampoline’s temperature was around 43 degrees Celsius, while the ground was 65 degrees.

“Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, capital murder warrants were obtained for both Daniel Schwarz and Ashley Schwarz, who were charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center,” Odessa Police said.
