Girl, 6, suffers serious facial injuries after being mauled by family dog

A six-year-old girl is in hospital after being attacked by the family dog.

The young girl suffered facial injuries after the male German Shepherd mauled her at their home in Tarneit, west of Melbourne, on Saturday.

It is believed the girl opened a window and let herself out into the backyard of the property, where she was attacked by the pet. It was one of several dogs on the property.

The girl is at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne in a serious condition.

Neighbours say they have had concerns about the dogs for some time.

“Once, they come inside my house, I report to the council,” Patrick Garces, a neighbour of the family, said.

Local council rangers visited the property this morning and removed the dog and its pup.
