Girl, 4, dies in scrum machine tragedy at rugby club

A four-year-old girl has died after an incident involving a scrum machine at a rugby club.

Authorities were called to the Manurewa Rugby Club in Auckland on Thursday about 6.35 pm (local time).

Police said the young girl’s death will be referred to the coroner and is not being treated as suspicious.

It is understood some members of the child’s family were present at the time and Victim Support, an organisation that provides support for victims of trauma and serious crime, is now assisting them.

Police have extended their condolences to the family at this “very tragic time”.
