A teenage girl who went on a wild joyride with a friend in an allegedly stolen car has been arrested as she tried to flee police after crashing into a wall near Newcastle.
The 15-year-old allegedly stole the car from a driveway in Mount Hutton at Lake Macquarie about 5.30pm on Tuesday, with officers spotting the Ford Mondeo after midnight in a nearby suburb, police say.
She sped off and was not seen again until 1.20am on Wednesday when the vehicle mounted the gutter and crashed into a wall.
The two teens fled but the driver was arrested by police.
She's been charged with driving without ever being licensed, not stopping the vehicle when directed, and for taking and driving conveyance.
The teen has been granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court later this month.
Police are still looking for the other teen and are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
