Girl, 12, gives birth to baby in Perth
A 12-year-old girl has given birth to a baby in a Perth hospital.
She gave birth earlier this month. Due to privacy concerns not much more is known about the girl or her pregnancy.
The girl became pregnant at the age of 11, according to local outlet The Midland Reporter.
But the Department of Communities says in situations like these a co-ordinated response from a range of government agencies is needed to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the baby.
Western Australia’s Health Department statistics show there have been a dozen registered births to 12-year-old girls since 1980.
Police have said they were aware of this case and were working closely with the families involved.
