Giant redback the size of a ‘golf ball’ discovered in Aussie home

If ever there’s been a good reason to pack up shop, sell the family home and never look back, this has to be up there.

A photo has emerged online of a “golf ball” sized redback spider which has been making itself at home in a house somewhere in Australia.

The terrifying picture shows the spider and an equally large sac of spider eggs.

“Nothing more Australian on Boxing Day then finding a red back the size of a golf ball deciding to move in with their whole family,” the unsettling image was captioned.

As far as how they should handle their unwelcome house guest, there seemed to be one overwhelmingly popular suggestion from Reddit users.

“You got a flamethrower handy?” one Reddit user asked.

“So did you burn the house down?” another asked.

“And this is why it’s important to insure your home and contents for fire,” said another.

While the spiders, which originated in South Australia, are considered extremely venomous, there has only been one known death since the introduction of anti-venom in 1956.
