Geelong man's mistake leads to million-dollar Lotto win
A Victorian man is now a millionaire after a "fantastic" mistake on his Lotto ticket that resulted in the most unexpected life-changing win.
The Geelong resident discovered the mistake after accidentally marking his Monday & Wednesday Lotto ticket with different numbers than usual.
The lucky man held the only division one winning entry in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4216, drawn on Monday 12 September, with a jackpot of $1 million.
After a few missed calls, the Geelong man finally discovered his mistake was actually a blessing in disguise after Australian lottery provider The Lott managed to get through to him and deliver the good news.
"I haven't even checked my ticket. I usually religiously check my tickets straight after the draw, but for some reason, I didn't this time," he said. "I'm looking at my ticket now, and I've realised I've even marked the numbers wrong too."
"They're special numbers, and I use them every time, but one of the numbers on this ticket is entirely wrong," he explained, adding that if he hadn't made the mistake, he wouldn't have won.
The man had just finished cooking lunch when the representative from The Lott called.
"Well, my appetite is well and truly gone now. I can't believe it. This is so weird," he said.
Geelong man's wife 'bawling' over Lotto win
It also turns out that the lucky man's wife was not a Lotto fan.
"My wife doesn't like me buying lottery tickets. But she's just walked in the door, and I've shown her the win on my phone, and now she's bawling her eyes out," the man shared.
"This prize is terrific because it'll mean we can stress less and enjoy more time with our family," he said, adding that he now plans to surprise his family with a big holiday, possibly in Europe or America.

The Lott's division one winning tally has now reached 306 so far this calendar year, which includes 125 won by Tatts customers.
In the 2022 financial year, Monday & Wednesday Lotto has created 108 millionaires across Australia, the lottery provider said. During this time, there were 122 division one winning Monday and Wednesday Lotto entries across the country, which collectively won $121 million.
