A Georgia man was arrested hours after authorities allege he fatally stabbed a woman.

Brian Moree allegedly fled the scene on foot on the night of Monday, Jan. 13 before being captured the next morning in Dalton, Ga., according to a statement from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene late Monday night and found the woman — identified by Sheriff Darren J. Pierce as Adriana Long — with a stab wound. Long was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details about what led up to the killing were not immediately known.

Moree is facing a murder charge and is being held at the Whitfield County Jail, according to Fox 5 Atlanta and WSB-TV.

“Teamwork is about more than just working together — it’s about bringing all our strengths and resources to bear in the pursuit of justice,” Sheriff Pierce said in the statement.

“It takes a collective effort to respond to a tragedy like this. In just a few hours, we identified the offender, secured arrest warrants, and tracked him down in the woods to make the arrest," the sheriff added. "This shows what’s possible when we stand together for our community.”
