The Full State Funeral Schedule for Jimmy Carter
After Jimmy Carter passed away at age 100 in late December in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, plans were put into action for his state funeral.
“To honor a great American, I will be ordering an official state funeral to be held in Washington D.C. for James Earl Carter, Jr., 39th President of the United States, 76th Governor of Georgia, Lieutenant of the United States Navy, graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and favorite son of Plains, Georgia, who gave his full life in service to God and country,” President Joe Biden wrote in a statement.
Now, the full details of Carter's funeral have been shared by the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (JTF-NCR/USAMDW), which details how Carter will travel from Georgia to D.C. and back again.
Per the JTF-NCR/USAMDW, “The Carter Family invites the public to honor and celebrate the life of former President Carter by paying their respects during either of the public viewings; the funeral procession in Washington; in the downtown area of Plains, Georgia; or along the motorcade routes in Georgia and Washington.”
