Torched stolen car sparks grass fire
Police are appealing for information from the public after a car was set alight on a day of total fire ban.
Officers spotted the burning vehicle along the Newell Highway north of Parkes in the state’s central-west, just after 10:30pm last night.
Fire crews and locals battled to put out the blaze as it spread to nearby vegetation, burning around two hectares of grassland.
Police believe the silver 1991 model Honda Accord was stolen from Margaret Street in Dubbo at around five o’clock yesterday afternoon.

At around one o'clock this afternoon, one of three west bound lanes on Sydney's Eastern Creek was closed, as fire crews battled another car fire.
They managed to contain the blaze following fears it might spread to local bushland.
