'Friends with benefits': Passenger reveals 'scary' proposal from Uber driver

A Gold Coast woman has revealed a “scary” proposal she received from an Uber driver.

Adrienne Horrigan told A Current Affair she was catching an Uber in December to her friend’s house.

On the return journey, she had the same driver - Sandeep Singh.

In an audio recording Ms Horrigan shared with the program, Mr Singh can be heard pleading with Ms Horrigan.

He’s offering his services in exchange for sexual favours.

“We can be like friends with benefits, you know?” Mr Singh says.

He offers to pick her up and drop her off anytime she likes.

Ms Horrigan turns down his proposal though about five or six times.

She said the conversation made her uncomfortable and she considered getting out of the car before her drop off and calling the police.

“I was really scared,” she said.

Mr Singh initially denied the accusation of sexual favours for rides but then admitted to it.

When asked if he had anything to say to his passenger he said he wasn’t sure but, “I would just like to say sorry”.

Ms Horrigan said she was given a refund and told she wouldn’t be partnered with Mr Singh again.

An Uber spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia that the “behaviour which was reported is unacceptable”.

“As soon as we became aware of the report in late 2018, we removed the individual’s access to the app and he no longer has access to the platform,” an Uber spokesperson said.

“We take safety seriously and we urge anyone who has a poor experience to report this through the app so we can take appropriate action.”
