'It was right here': Courteney Cox reveals coronavirus scare

Friends star Courteney Cox has revealed a close call with coronavirus in her own home, saying a friend she was quarantining with contracted and almost died of the virus while quarantining with her and daughter Coco.

The international star appeared on Foy Vance’s podcast The Vinyl Supper this month where she revealed that two friends who had been invited to quarantine with her and her daughter at her California home contracted COVID-19 in the days between testing negative and arriving at her home.

"I have these two friends, they were gonna quarantine with me, which is great because if I can’t be with John, I don’t wanna be just by myself with Coco [Cox's 15-year-old daughter], I’m a little chicken," she said.

Courteney’s long time partner Johnny McDaid has spent the pandemic in his home country of the UK.

The star revealed all four of the would-be quarantine mates were tested and came up negative, but one friend Kevin unknowingly contracted the virus when he returned to his home to pack some items for the stay.

“They got here on a Friday, we’d been tested we were all negative,” she said. “Two days later Kevin started feeling really tired. He threw up... Four days later he was in the hospital on a ventilator almost dead.”

“He had to be on dialysis, the whole thing. That was one of the scariest things.”

Courteney said Kevin recovered and the rest of the household were fine but admitted that had the virus not struck in her own home, she would never have properly understood it.

“I wouldn’t even understand COVID-19 had it not been right here. It was scary.”

The star also opened up about being separated from her partner Johnny McDaid because of the pandemic, revealing it’s been more than 100 days since the pair were together.

The 56-year-old’s partner of seven years flew out to his home in the UK just days before the US state locked down.

“I haven’t seen John in [over 150] days,” the actor revealed. “He left and the next day the whole country shut down.”

She said she was initial adrift amid the worsening global situation, but found solace in everyday tasks.

"At first I was like, 'Wow what do I do with myself?' she said. "I cook every day, I’ve learned to cook so much more, I’ve perfected it.”
