Andy Murray has been drawn against former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka in an intriguing first-round clash at Roland Garros.

Former British and world No.1 Murray, who was knocked out of the US Open second round by Felix Auger-Aliassime earlier in September, was given another wildcard spot into the tournament.

Coincidentally, Wawrinka - also a three-time Grand Slam champion - was Murray's last opponent at Roland Garros three years ago in a match where the Scot's hip injuries first began, while the Swiss subsequently required surgery on a knee injury of his own.

The prolific pair last met in Antwerp last October, where Murray ran out victorious in three sets to claim his first singles title since his hip resurfacing surgery.

Murray is just one of six Brits in the 2020 French Open draw, which starts on Sunday, the notable absentee being Kyle Edmund, who has been forced to withdraw with a knee injury.

The mouth-watering opening round clashes don't stop with Murray, with British No.1 Johanna Konta going head-to-head with 16-year-old Coco Gauff in what will be the American's first appearance at the French Open.

Meanwhile, Dan Evans, who also disappointingly exited the US Open in the second round, will face the once world No.4 Kei Nishikori.

Liam Broady had previously never won a match at Roland Garros, but qualified for the French Open main draw with a faultless run through the qualifiers, yet to drop a set sets in his three matches.

The 26-year-old's opening-round opponent has not yet been confirmed, though he could face Cam Norrie in an exciting all-British encounter.

Completing the women's draw for the Brits is world No. 56 Heather Watson, who starts her campaign against France's Fiona Ferro after being knocked out of the US Open first round by Konta.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal was beaten by Diego Schwartzman in the Italian Open quarter-finals last week, but he'll look to bounce back against Belarusian Egor Gerasimov in the first round as he bids for a 13th title.

Nadal finds himself in the same side of the draw as newly crowned US Open champion Dominic Thiem, meaning there can be no repeat of the finals from the previous two years. Thiem starts his bid for a first French Open title against Marin Cilic.

Lastly, Novak Djokovic will face Swede Mikael Ymer after being disqualified from the US Open in the fourth round.
