France has smashed its daily record for new COVID-19 cases as the highly contagious Omicron variant races through the population.
There were 368,149 infections reported within 24 hours, the French health authority said.
The previous record, set last Wednesday, was 332,252 cases.
The number of cases in France has been rocketing up as Omicron fuels a fifth wave of COVID-19.
The moving incidence rate in France stands at 2790 per 100,000 people over the past seven days.
To stem the tide, the French government wants to tighten restrictions on the unvaccinated by mid-January.
If the plan gets final approval, the unjabbed will no longer have access to restaurants, cultural activities and long-distance transport.
