Fox Host Questions Melania Trump's 'Interesting' Timing To Share Her Abortion Views

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked Melania Trump about the “interesting” timing of her book release, including details about her support for abortion, weeks before the Americans head to the polls.

Melania Trump claims in her new memoir, “Melania,” that she favors abortion rights — a surprise, given her husband Donald Trump’s role in tearing them away from millions of women as president.

The rationale behind her decision to share that view has been the subject of much speculation. Some wondered if she sought to break from her husband on the issue, while others viewed it as a ploy to try and soften how the Republican nominee is viewed by moderate voters on abortion.

“It was interesting that you wrote this in the book right before a presidential election,” Bartiromo said to the former first lady during an interview that aired on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“Well, that was not written in the last week or the last month,” Melania Trump said. “But that book was written months before, and it was in print months before. So that was my belief and it is my belief, and I wanted to put it in the book because I want to be authentic.”

The book is out Tuesday, exactly four weeks before the Nov. 5 election.

“How do you think the Republicans and President Trump have handled this issue?” Bartiromo asked.

“He knew my beliefs, as I said, so he knew it would be in the book,” Melania Trump replied. “He let me be who I am, and he let me believe what I believe. He let me be my own person, and he respects that, and I respect that as I let him be his own person. He has different beliefs, and he will do what he believes.”

Earlier in the interview, the former first lady claimed her husband has known “my position and my beliefs since the day we met.”

“I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think I don’t want government in my personal business,” she said.

In 1999, not long after he met his now-wife, Donald Trump claimed “I am very pro-choice.” By the time he was mulling a political run in 2011, he had flip-flopped completely.

He’s been twisting himself into knots on abortion during the 2024 campaign, repeatedly evading questions and shifting his position after it proved to be a losing issue for Republicans in previous election cycles.

Last year he bragged that he was “able to kill” Roe v. Wade, ending five decades of protection for abortion rights nationwide.
