News anchor killed in plane crash while covering story

A well-known news anchor has been killed in a horrific plane crash.

Nancy Parker, 53, was one of two people who died in a plane crash at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport on Friday about 3pm (local time), Fox News reports.

Parker had worked for Fox 8 in the US for 23 years and died along with pilot Franklin Augustus.

The station wrote on Facebook the 53-year-old was covering a story at the airport when she died.

“She put her heart and soul into her work, covering thousands of stories and touching countless lives,” it wrote.

“She made a difference in the lives of those she reported on. She will be sorely missed, and her absence creates a void that cannot be filled."

Gerald Herbert, an Associated Press photographer who was at the scene, told Fox News the plane was “completely charred”.

The crash is still under investigation.
